Biography of Alexei Mukhin



Alexei Mukhin was born in 1971 in Moscow into a family of doctors.

In 1995 he graduated from the Moscow State Institute for History and Archives (known as the Russian State University for the Humanities since 1991) as a historian and archivist specializing in Russian History of different periods. 

Alexei Mukhin embarked upon his career in 1988 as a librarian in the library of the Trade Union Committee of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) in the City of Zhukovsky, Moscow Region. After completing his service in the Armed Forces of the USSR in 1989-1991, Mr. Mukhin worked as a research assistant at the information and research center «Panorama» while simultaneously working towards his degree in Russian History.

In January 1996 Alexei Mukhin organized the Service for Political Information and Consultation - Center (SPIC-Center), an independent research organization and information agency, in which he held the position of Executive Director (later – Director).

Since 1997, Alexei Mukhin has served as the General Director of the Center for Political Information. The Center is an independent consulting company in the field of risk management, providing its clients with solutions in the sphere of political analysis and consulting, tools for reducing commercial risks and information support of their businesses, as well as a package of services in the field of corporate and personal reputation management. Clients of the Center include foreign and Russian oil and gas companies, financial and industrial holdings, as well as foreign embassies and consulates in Russia. In 2015 Alexei Mukhin co-founded the Center for Political Information – IT Ltd. Since 2017, he has served as President of the CENTRUM Foundation.

In 2002, Alexei Mukhin established and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Internet-based magazine FEC (Facts, Events, Comments). In 2004-2005 Alexei Mukhin led a special course “Information wars” at the Russian State Social University. In 2012, he became an Associate Professor at the Russian State University for the Humanities. In 2016-2017, he served as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the University and Consultant to the Rector.

Alexei Mukhin is an author of over 100 scientific papers, including monographs in the field of political science and the history of Russia. He is a member of the Association of Historians of intelligence services and participant in the “Social Environment” project by the Russian Ministry of Defense. He participates in the Valdai Club and has been a member of the Valdai Club Academy since 2016. He has also participated in the annual International Economic Forum in Krynica (Poland).

Alexei Mukhin serves on the Expert Council for the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Since 2012 he has been an active participant of “Open Tribune” round-tables at the State Duma. He is also a member of the Expert Council for the Government of the Tatarstan Republic.

Mr. Mukhin is a columnist of Echo of Moscow, Slon.ru, RBC-daily, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Argumenti Nedeli. Alexei Mukhin’s comments on current political and economic developments are regularly cited by the leading national and international media, such as Spiegel, The New York Times, Le Figaro, France 24, Deutsche Welle, Kommersant, Vedomosti, RBC-daily, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Expert, Profile, Izvestia, Channel One, Russia today, Channel 5, Business FM, Finam FM, Kommersant FM, Echo of Moscow and many others.

Spheres of Alexei Mukhin’s professional interests include:

Alexei Mukhin’s hobbies include Oriental philosophy, psychology, world religions. He is the President of the Federation of Development of Aikido Ren Wa Kai, which in 2016 won the National Award «Tornado» in the category «Commitment to the traditions of Aikido». Alexei holds the Fourth Dan of Aikido. Since 2015 he has also been a Member of the Presidium of the Russian Aikido Aikikai Federation.
